Is Your Site "Squeezable Soft"?

A squeezably soft Web site is a site designed to display well in a wide variety of browsers whose windows are set to a variety of widths while being displayed at any one of several monitor resolution settings on a monitor of untold size. Confused? Read on and all will become clear...

Let's start with the monitor size. Mine is a 17" monitor. What size is yours? 15"? 17"? 19"? Bigger still? Must be nice!

What resolution is that monitor set to? If it is a small monitor, say 15", then your resolution is most likely set to 800 x 600. If your eyesight is weak, you may have is set as low as 640 x 480. If your monitor is 17" to 21", your resolution could be anywhere between 800 x 600 to 1280 x 1024 or higher.

Now tell me what size do you keep your browser window set to? Full screen? Or maybe just taking up about 3/4 of the desktop. More? Less?

These are all factors that demand that your site should be designed to display well in as many types of browsers as possible while being viewed at a variety of sizes and resolutions.

Do me a favor . . . re-size your browser window right now! If it is set to full screen then make it smaller or just the opposite. Notice how the layout of this page (and this entire site) will compress and expand to look nice at any width from 640 pixels wide on up.

So the layout of this site isn't rigid, it's flexible. In fact, one might say it's "squeezably soft."

Coming Soon: Does your site say "Best viewed with . . . "
