Sunday mornings are a special time at our house. The one morning of the week no one has to get up and get moving. A morning made for sleeping late — sometimes until 8 am — and letting the day come to me instead of me attacking the day. It is a relaxing time that I truly enjoy.

My usual routine is to wake without an alarm clock and simply lay in bed for awhile thinking, sometimes drifting in and out of a light sleep until I decide it is time to physically get up. Letting my mind wander during this time always brings up some interesting thoughts and memories. The type of things that often have me asking, “where did that come from?”

Eventually, the call for coffee will drag me out of bed. If my wife has already gotten up and made it, then I will rise earlier, drawn by the wonderful aroma. There is nothing better than waking to smell of coffee — except maybe waking to the smell of bacon! If I am the first to rise, then I am the maker of the java, which I dutifully start brewing before crawling back into bed until it is done.

I find Sunday morning coffee goes great with a little Internet browsing. I like to spend an hour or so reading the news, checking Facebook, and eventually reading up on the latest Web development techniques. As a Web developer, constant research and acquiring new skills is a mandatory part of my job.

We typically don’t even get to breakfast until late morning. But with bacon, eggs, and biscuits on the menu, it is always delicious and will usually carry us through to an early dinner.

So what is your favorite part of Sunday morning?
